The Pursuit of Happiness
Happiness is the ultimate quest; what everyone aspires to have. Most people do whatever they do in pursuit of happiness. Why do people chase financial gain and material possessions, people, or most commonly, love? Because there is an attachment to the outcome that says once these particular objects of affection are obtained you will be happy or content with life. Yet to pursue something is to reinforce the idea that you currently lack it, and sadly what you pursue will always elude you. Even after you’ve acquired the things you desire, you’ve allowed your happiness to be dictated by them, so if they are lost, so is your happiness. In most cases, people will acquire what they desire and still garner feelings of uncontentment. The more they gain the more they want, leading to a perpetual cycle of ideas of lack and pursuit.
Happiness Comes From Within
Happiness is derived from within ourselves and should never be dictated by our relationships, relationship status, people, environments, financial gain, or material possessions. There should never be an emotional high after you've acquired something, only feelings of immense gratitude. Likewise, there should never be an emotional low after you've lost something, only feelings of faith, and in that faith we find peace with our current reality. Why do people chase love? Because there is an attachment to the thought that the love they intend to find in another will make them happy or bring life fulfillment, this couldn't be false. Yet it's not surprising because it's been proven that our mind is well known for telling lies, but we still have a choice whether or not to believe them.
Choose to believe that happiness cannot be obtained by how much wealth you’ve gained. It cannot be obtained by how successful your partnerships are. Happiness cannot be found, but only felt once you’ve decided to choose it. Choose to believe that your happiness already exists right now at this very moment because it does, and when you decide to choose happiness right now you’ll break the cycle of your perpetual pursuit for what’s already within your possession. You’ll break the perpetual cycle that causes you to consistently self-sabotage all the good that is in your life because you're too busy looking past it to appreciate what’s right in front of you.
Happiness Is A State of Being
Happiness is a state of being. Happiness is a mentality based on positive or negative perceptions. People who truly live a happy life realize that it is a choice and they have the power to intentionally choose it every day, and so they do. Happy people don’t allow themselves to be held hostage by their circumstances. Neither do they seek happiness in possessions, money, relationships, or people.
It’s the ability to extract positivity from your adversities that brings true happiness. We choose to be happy by the way we respond to adversity. We choose to be happy by remaining in the present moment and recognizing that we already have everything we need, truly, once we detach ourselves from the material world. You are in control of your happiness and when you choose to focus on everything that you are grateful for at this very moment, you will indeed be happier.
