The Throat Chakra


The throat chakra, often referred to as Vishuddha, is one of the energy centers in our body that directs energy flow pertaining to communication. It is one of the seven primary chakras responsible for communicating your inner truth. It is an essential aspect of self-expression. This chakra is located at the center of the larynx and is an important aspect when speaking one's truth. It can be seen as the communication hub of the body that allows individuals to find their truth and speak up. This chakra can also be seen as a connector between the energies relating to higher wisdom and love and compassion.


Like the other energy centers that inhabit the body, for the throat chakra to function well, it needs to stay open and balanced. The throat chakra controls the expression of your thoughts and shares a keen connection to the chakra of the heart. These two work together simultaneously to unveil your ability to receive love on a deeper level and communicate your needs freely and clearly. When blocked, you’ll be faced with challenges surrounding communication and authentic expression of your feelings and emotions and oftentimes experience emotional outbursts.


 


Importance of the Throat Chakra


A balanced throat chakra provides us with self validation and frees us from the fear of judgement. It improves our perception of the concept of truth. It is responsible for helping us embrace our individual experiences and originality. It is responsible for our self expression and governs effective communication with ourselves and with others by creating a balance between listening and speaking. Associated with the blue color element, it improves our confidence to express our feelings, ideas and thoughts openly and allows for transparency. 


Symptoms of A Blocked Throat Chakra


A blocked throat chakra affects our emotions and body in several ways. These are the possible symptoms of a blocked throat chakra;


  • Inability to express one's thoughts, being socially anxious, feeling insecure or shy
  • Displaying aggressiveness, especially in speeches, dominating conversations, and displaying an always-right attitude
  • Respiratory issues, neck pains, sore throats, hoarseness, and laryngitis
  • Mouth ulcers and gum disease
  • Always highly critical of themselves
  • Sudden outbursts of emotions
  • Thyroid challenges 
  • Fluctuations in hormone levels 

 


How to Heal a Blocked Throat Chakra


  • Practice yoga breathing techniques related to the throat areas as well as yoga asanas such as the shoulder stand or plough pose
  • Develop a habit of meditation. This can help to build connections with personal truth and internal dialogue
  • While doing yoga or meditating, incorporate words of affirmation
  • Healthy eating habits that incorporate fruit juices, plums, or melons
  • Practice aromatherapy
  • Practice frequent neck stretches and align your neck with your spine
  • Carry out pranayama breathing exercises
  • Use throat chakra crystals like Lapiz, Blue Tiger Eye, Angelite, Turquoise, Amazonite 
  • Align your neck with your spine
