CAPITALISM PLAGUE TO SOCIETY

Asanti Grisolmn • May 12, 2022

Capitalism is a free-market economic system with low government interference. Capitalism advocates believe it or not that it’s the most efficient economic system, allowing for higher living standards. But capitalism has a different impact on people, whether you are a worker or a business owner, it will engage with you uniquely. Capitalism may make sense for someone who owns a business and employs others because the more profits your company generates, the more resources you acquire, the less taxes you pay out, and the more you have to yourself and to share with your employees, theoretically improving everyone's level of living. It's all based on supply and demand, and with capitalism, consuming reigns supreme.

The problem is that many capitalist employers aren't great at sharing the returns from the businesses, which is why one of the most common criticisms of capitalism is that it is a major source of social and economic inequality and endless poverty.

Capitalism's very essence is to reward and promote profit, but if those rewards are being lost in the hands of those on the upper hierarchy chain and those who are at the frontline reeling in their success are at the short end of receiving, then the sense of fair-play as we know it has been long forgotten. Thus we now live in a world where decisions are constantly being made that favor maximizing self profit over maximizing societal welfare.

Capitalism has been seen to overlook people's needs, lead to socioeconomic disparity, and has failed to foster equality of opportunity. Capitalism also encourages mass consumerism, is unsustainable, and gives business owners an incentive to harm the environment for financial benefit. In addition to being socioeconomically unproductive and unpredictable, capitalism has been ineffective on many levels, hence the United States of America is currently 1.07 million dollars in debt to China.

They’ll tell you that Capitalism believes that business competition benefits consumers by making things more affordable, and that capitalism's dog-eat-dog environment motivates people to strive harder to attain their goals. But we see the immense suffering and violence inflicted on the working classes, the ruthless emphasis on profits over people, the proliferation of wage slavery in which people are forced to sell their labor for low pay rates, as seen in industries ranging from fast food to corporate offices, and now social alienation.

Capitalism holds the belief that "greed is good," which supporters argue is a good thing since greed drives profits, which drives innovation and product creation, resulting in more options for those who can afford them. But most people cannot afford the luxuries capitalism provided. Most people wander the earth blindly, seeking societal validation so they can feel a sense of importance and belonging in a societal class that realistically is far beyond their socioeconomic rank. The truth is while 5.9 million people walk the earth financially free, the poverty rate consistently rises—“google it baby” (Teyana Taylor voice). There are now 43.96 million people who live in poverty in just America alone compared to that 5.9 million.

“Change is inevitable. We need only demand it and we shall receive it. Do not fall prey to societal belief systems and self inhibiting paradigms. The freedom is always yours to choose. Don’t allow the prism of mental entrapment they’ve created around your heads to subdue your greatness.” - Asanti Alexandra David

This system, this broken thing, does not love you. This tyranny and bigoted governed rule only desires to see you suffering beneath the capital wheel. It’s no different than a relationship being wielded by manipulation. Doing bare minimum in an attempt to make it appear as if you care isn’t the same as caring.

You must “Do everything you can to make it around the system, over the system, or out the system” - Tupac Shakur
