Passed down from one generation to another, generational curses are often borne out of sins committed by ancestors due to rebellion against man or God. These sins accumulate in density also known as karmic debt and result in perpetual loops of historic events known as karmic cycles. Generational curses exist in various forms of toxicity, such as ungodly behavioral patterns like alcoholism, anger, lust, incest, and result in repetitive karmic cycles of poverty, divorce or failed relationships, laziness or self doubt resulting in lack of accomplishments. Generational curses are proof that our ancestors have significant development in our lives such that various patterns of conditioned behavior affect generations of lineages.
Simply put, generational curses refers to the generational acquisition of traits that negatively affects the lives of their descendants'. It can be seen as a form of punishment for acts committed by our ancestors as these acts are indisputably acts of pure self sabotage. It can also be seen as ancestral programming and is indirect karma accumulated from one's ancestry that has not been cleared or repaid, leaving their descendants left to repay it. Thus, it becomes a burden and the same events from your ancestors' past experiences, whether they divulge this information or not, begins to play out in your life.
Consider this illustration of a generational curse. Divorce can result in generational consequences as they have high tendencies of affecting the emotions of individuals. For example, parents that lived in homes where their parents were divorced can quickly develop unhealthy relationship traits that might also result in separation or divorce. This is because we subconsciously adapt these negative traits and behavioral patterns. “Hurt people hurt people” because unbeknownst to us we adapt those same behavioral patterns that we have been exposed to and begin to unconsciously project the same behavior onto others much like a virus. This ultimately plays out in your life as a continuous fear of commitment due to fear of abandonment and/or a multitude of failed relationships.
Causes of Generational Curses
Generational Curses often spring up from practised beliefs under false pretenses, and sins committed. These actions usually have consequences and it is the consequence of such acts that are passed down from one generation to another.
Take a look at some actions that have generational consequences.
It’s important to over-stand that although your ancestors may not have committed these acts, these acts could have surely been committed to them, resulting in trauma left unhealed and now unfortunately you are left to heal what they did not.
How To Break Generational Curses
Realization or acknowledgment is the first step to dismantling generational curses. The first step to fighting anything is to realize what it is and acknowledge its existence and how it’s affecting or impacting your life. Thus realization helps to fully over-stand what it is and allows you to begin your efforts in seeking a resolution.
Asking questions will help you get a better understanding of the trauma your ancestors were subjected to or the sinful endeavors they’ve indulged in. Meet with the relevant people and ask them questions to fully over-stand what caused the karmic cycles and how to put an end to them. Thus with over standing comes the knowing of how to tackle it.
Exercising patience is a must as you may not get all the information you need at first. Practice patience and continue to assure yourself that you're on the right track. There are far too many resources out there, including this platform that provides you with the information you need as it’s already been discovered by others once before. Don’t make things hard on yourself.
Pray to God or connect with the higher power for clarity and precise direction. You need only ask and you shall receive, and when you receive, take heed.
Create room for self-improvement. Try to do things differently that counters habits related to the generational curse, this is the only way to break the cycle. In order to achieve something they never could, you have to do or behave in ways that they never did. You have to transform your belief system and most importantly become mindful.
