THE TRUTH BEHIND YOUR LACK OF MOTIVATION

We have all experienced the feeling of lack of motivation at some point in our life. While some have struggled with it for years, it occasionally happens for some. Either way, it can be overcome.


Motivation is needed to accomplish the things we want to accomplish. When we are motivated to accomplish something, we usually have a powerful reason to do it. Motivation helps us achieve our goals, but what causes us to lack motivation? 


Lack of motivation can stem from several things. Here are five of the many reasons you may lack the motivation to get things done: 


  • Feelings of Unworthiness: Some people lack motivation due to their feelings of being undeserving of the benefits. They find it difficult to visualize themselves reaping the rewards of accomplishing such an exceptional goal. They may even feel that there is someone out there who deserves it more than they do. 


  • You Are Not Doing Enough: If you find yourself lacking the motivation to accomplish your goals, it might be that you are not doing enough. By simply deciding to get started on an activity and taking small yet steady steps, even if you don't feel like you are up to it, you may eventually get things done. 


  • YOU ARE DEPRESSED: Depression, no matter how mild, can steal your energy and motivation to work. Depression can make it hard for you to get through your normal daily tasks. You may even begin to struggle to do the little things like cooking and cleaning. 


  • You Are Too Busy Trying To Please Everyone: Most people-pleasers will often experience a lack of motivation because when you're too busy trying to make everyone else happy, you won't be able to identify your own needs and wants. When you don't know what you want, you have no reason to be motivated. 


  • You Settle For Less: While it is good to be content in life, it can also cause one to lack motivation. Being complacent with what you already have won't motivate you to try out new things because you believe there is nothing else to achieve. It’s okay to be content and express gratitude for the now but it’s also okay to desire more out of life and reach a higher level of fulfillment


  • Feelings of Self-doubt: Self-doubt is certainly one of the leading causes of lack of motivation. It’s extremely difficult to be motivated about achievements if you don’t even believe in your capabilities. If you doubt that you would ever amount to something greater in life or doubt you’ll ever be able to achieve a desired goal then why bother right? You’ve already given up before you’ve even started. 


How Do You Overcome Lack Of Motivation?


The first thing is to identify the cause of your lack of motivation. If you are a people pleaser, learn to start saying no sometimes and create time and space for yourself. Start doing the things you enjoy and love. Indulge in a series of self-care activities. If you are feeling depressed, it’s imperative that you seek help from a friend, a professional or if you're a solitary type of person like myself, you can embark on your journey of self-healing alone. 


There is a ton of free information right at your fingertips. The internet alone offers millions of healing remedies such as meditations, journaling prompts, and reflection exercises that can help you get to the core of these melancholy feelings. Change is imminent and we must learn to embrace change and find innovative ways to adapt to these changes. And most importantly start to implement changes into our lives to create a better one for ourselves.
