Addictions are the easiest ways to resort to when faced with challenging circumstances. People face addictions for several reasons, ranging from stress, abuse, vulnerability, and exposure due to lack of parental care, and association. Then the ability of people to properly let go of said addictions now becomes the problem. Thus all they’ve done is create a new problem for themselves on top of the problems they already have.
Addiction starts when the use of certain substances such as drugs or alcohol becomes prolonged to the point where the use becomes compulsive. People remain addicted because they claim to feel good whenever they practice those addictive behaviours. It’s no secret that addictions are indeed a form of toxic codependency that allows it’s dependents to temporarily forget ongoing issues such as complicated relationships, financial instability or low self-esteem. So what is the real addiction? Is it to the drug itself, or is it to the temporary elusiveness of negative thought processes it provides?
Addictions are often sustained by the addicted due to the lack of contentment with their reality. The habit serves as a temporary escape from their reality thus the addiction is not to the drug itself but rather to the illusionary escape the substance provides. The substance alters the state of the mind and creates a temporary moment of pleasure because their real lives aren’t pleasurable. It’s the lack of being fulfilled in their everyday lives that drives substance abusers away from sobriety.
Here are some tips that may help or one quit addictions and begin a life of sobriety.
